# Switch Credit Card Payment Processor and Stop Overpaying

## Independent quotes for US businesses taking $5,000+ a month in card payments

If you already take cards, you already have a processor. The question is whether you’re on the right deal. Most businesses signed up years ago, got a rate that seemed fine, and haven’t looked since. Meanwhile markups creep, new fees appear on the statement, and nobody calls to tell you there’s something cheaper.

We’re an independent broker. We don’t sell card machines and we’re not tied to one processor. You tell us what you process now, and we find out what the market will offer you for it.

### Signs you’re paying too much for card processing

Pull up last month’s statement and check for any of these:

- **Your rate is described as “qualified”, “mid-qualified” or “non-qualified”.** That’s tiered pricing, and the processor decides which bucket each transaction lands in. Most end up in the expensive ones.
- **You’re on a flat rate like 2.9% + 30¢ and processing over $20,000 a month.** Flat rate suits new businesses. At volume, it usually costs you thousands a year more than interchange-plus.
- **There are fees you can’t explain.** PCI non-compliance fees, statement fees, batch fees, monthly minimums and gateway fees often get added after signup.
- **Your rate has gone up and nobody told you why.** Rate creep is common and rarely announced.
- **You can’t easily work out what you’re paying overall.** That’s usually by design.

### Work out your effective rate in two minutes

Your effective rate is the only number that matters. Headline rates hide everything else.

**Effective rate = total fees for the month ÷ total card sales for the month**

Example for a business processing $100,000 a month:

| Fee | Cost |
| --- | --- |
| Interchange and assessments | $2,000 |
| Processor markup | $500 |
| Per-transaction fees (1,000 × 20¢) | $200 |
| Monthly gateway fee | $25 |
| **Total** | **$2,725** |

That’s an effective rate of **2.73%**. Card-present businesses on interchange-plus commonly come in nearer 1.7% to 2.3%. On $100,000 a month, every half a percent is $6,000 a year.

Send us your figures and we’ll tell you where you stand.

### Why use a broker instead of going direct

Go direct to a processor and you get their offer. Go through us and you get several processors competing for your business.

- **We’ve been placing merchants since 2012.** The volume we’ve brought to processors over the years is leverage you don’t have on your own.
- **One form, several quotes.** No ringing round, no repeating yourself to five sales teams.
- **We read the small print.** Contract length, termination fees, auto-renewals and monthly minimums, before you sign, not after.
- **We stay with you.** If rates creep or fees appear later, you’ve got someone to call who isn’t the processor.

### What switching processor actually involves

Less than most people expect.

You fill in the form below with what you process and who you’re with now. We come back with quotes laid out side by side so you can compare like for like. If one suits you, we handle the application and the move. You choose whether it happens, and if your current deal turns out to be a good one, we’ll say so.

**Before you switch, check your current contract for early termination fees.** If you’re unsure what yours says, send it to us and we’ll go through it with you.

### Who we work with

We help businesses across the US in most sectors, including:

- Restaurants, bars and hospitality
- Retail and ecommerce
- Furniture and high-ticket sales
- Trades and field services
- High-risk sectors that struggle to get accepted elsewhere

If you’re taking $5,000 or more a month in card payments and haven’t reviewed your processor in the last year, it’s worth a look.

Two checks before it goes live. Make sure the sector list matches the industry pages you actually have, and adjust the “$5,000+ a month” threshold if Rog’s cut-off for the US differs from the £60k one. Send the next page when you’re ready.
